Random Podcast is back

Random Podcast was the first time I took on a solo project. Everything I had made until then, I had made with other people. With Random I chose to do it alone. It was a rewarding experience that helped me grow in a lot of ways, but above all it was a lot of fun to make.

Random offered a collection of reflections and digressions on a wide range of subjects. Episodes went from readings of books and films to discussions of technology and contemporary culture — problems born in the heat of the internet, or radical ideologies with a long history behind them. Since there was no way to find anything in common across that pile of whims, there was no choice but to name it accordingly.

A lot of the episodes carry heavy doses of memes, philosophy and rambling. Random has no thematic through line; what it has is a method: using the ideas and concepts of digital culture to set off philosophical questions about our present condition. That question kept deepening across everything I did well beyond Random's initial impulse — it showed up more than once on Círculo Vicioso, it runs through several texts on 421, and of course it fed my books.

Random holds the earliest traces of interests that later became the things I ended up writing about: postmodernity, cognitive sovereignty, radicalization on the right, Byung-Chul Han's Psychopolitics, Peter Sloterdijk, the Unabomber and so on.

Each subject works as a trigger to dig into the roots and the reasons behind the current state of things, while opening a new set of questions that listeners may or may not answer for themselves.

The goal I started Random with is more than met by now, but maybe, with 421 around, it can come back as a collaboration between the two. That, in fact, is what this short piece is about.

Announcing the return of Random in 2026. With a first episode already up on every podcast platform, the idea is a humble but steady comeback: at least one episode a month throughout the year.

This first one is devoted to Gilles Deleuze's "Postscript on the Societies of Control", a text that in some way closes out every search of the previous cycle and leaves us with a clean slate to go after this year's new subjects and new obsessions.
