The Dark Millennium universe gained traction among gamers thanks to titles like Space Marine 2, Darktide, and Rogue Trader, and with the release of Secret Level Amazon it offered a taste of what a CGI series could look like. But in general, Warhammer 40,000 adaptations into audiovisual content win on the visual side and lose on the script: they all tell the same story. That's not the case with Space King, a parody that perfectly captures the most delirious aspects of the God Emperor's universe.

From the Flashgitz studio, this animated YouTube series parodies the life of a group of Star Defenders on a quest for the relics that will bring the Space King back to his throne. In its two released episodes, the series delivers a level of graphic and narrative violence as ridiculous as the actual Warhammer 40,000 lore. Here our "heroes" are a band of space brutes, xenophobes with zero empathy, who blindly follow orders and face any threat in order to show devotion to the absent Space King.

My favorites on the team are Chestnut, a medic who still retains some empathy for life; and Hatemonger, a brute whose only motivation is killing alien races. They have great moments together and make Space King, for now, a highly recommended animated series.
